Getting To Know Wash + Smooth

Getting To Know Wash + Smooth

When formulating our shampoo & conditioner we wanted to focus on two main objectives: growing healthier hair and maintaining hair better. Haircare over the years has been reactive. As we move forward, we are going to see a great shift towards a more proactive approach to haircare products. Whether trying to slow grey hair or working to repair scalp and hair strands, our Shower Duo is designed to help.

Arey Wash includes a combination of antioxidants that work to repair and prepare the scalp. The goal of the antioxidants is to create the best environment for a clinically effective peptide to be absorbed through the scalp into the hair follicle. When using Wash, it’s important to focus on massaging the product into your scalp and leaving on for several minutes. We suggest applying Wash as the first step in your shower routine, and letting the suds sit on the scalp while you wash/exfoliate your body and shave.

To help protect your hair and scalp from exposure to harsh chemicals, we chose to formulate Wash with ingredients that are best for the scalp. Hair and skin are made of the same materials. Skin has nerve endings resulting in sensitivity, but hair doesn’t. Meaning that we can easily overlook the damage some products are causing every time we apply them to our strands.  Many times shampoo is formulated with strong cleansers, leaving both scalp and hair over-cleansed and feeling dry.

Here are a few of the ingredients that help with gentle cleansing and scalp hydration:

Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate exhibits high foaming ability, producing a stable, rich and velvety lather that does not dehydrate the skin, making it ideal for addition to water-free products as well as skin care, hair care, and bath products. "In particular, sodium cocoyl isethionate is a gentle surfactant so it has a reduced risk of skin irritation," says Dr. Blair Murphy-Rose, an NYC based dermatologist.

Other surfactants (like sulfates) tend to be harsh on the skin, stripping it of its natural oils and compromising the skin barrier.

two globs of glycerin

Glycerin is a widely used ingredient, mainly for its ability to maintain moisture in the scalp and hair. It can increase skin hydration, relieve dryness, and refresh the skin's surface. Glycerin is a humectant, a type of moisturizing agent that pulls water into the outer layer of the skin from deeper levels of the skin and the air. It's also an emollient, which means it can soften skin, helping to create a balanced scalp.

Arey Smooth is designed to correct the most common characteristics of aging hair: dry, coarse, unruly and limp, which is how hair can look and feel as it gets older or is exposed to more chemicals. Hair strands have three layers. The interior layers are meant to swell so that the exterior layer is structured and smooth. When we lose color from the hair stand the unoccupied space can take away from the hair structure, leaving the cuticle looking and feeling fractured.

Along with the other ingredients, here are two that work directly to soften, strengthen and maintain all hair strands:

Cetearyl Alcohol is used to help soften the hair and to thicken and stabilize cosmetic products, like conditioners and hair products. As an emollient, cetearyl alcohol is considered an effective ingredient for soothing and healing dry hair. We commonly associate alcohol in products as drying. Fatty alcohols, like cetearyl alcohol, don’t have the same effect on the hair as other alcohols due to their chemical structure.

Chemicals that make the hair feel smooth are referred to as emollients, they work by forming an oily layer on the top of the hair to keep the moisture inside.

pool of clear jojoba oil

Jojoba Oil is rich in vitamins and minerals that nourish hair, including vitamin C, B vitamins, vitamin E, copper, and zinc. Because it strengthens hair, it is also thought that jojoba oil can prevent hair loss and promote hair thickness. Jojoba oil has an oily composition, so it can be used as a moisturizer. When added to conditioner, jojoba oil protects against dryness, breakage, and split ends by increasing elasticity.

The frequency at which we all shampoo and condition our hair and scalp is often. By incorporating this complex set of ingredients into a staple of your routine means every time you wash, you’ll leave the shower with healthier hair.
